Per Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247sports, Ball State receiver Justin Bowick has committed to Illinois Fighting Illini football. In the 247sports transfer rankings, Bowick is rated as the 29th wide receiver that is currently in the transfer portal.

Bowick is a 6 foot 4, 199 pound wideout who started his college career with Eastern Illinois where he totaled 43 receptions for 709 yards and eight touchdowns. He played two seasons there before transferring to Ball State. Bowick unfortunately dealt with an injury that kept him out the first six games, however, he caught three touchdowns in just four games of action. Despite a limited season at Ball State, Bowick took visits to Penn State and Kentucky.

What it means?

Illinois Football has its work cut out for them in the transfer portal. In particular, they need to build around their returning quarterback Luke Altmyer, and help replace star wideouts Pat Bryant and Zakhari Franklin. Justin Bowick brings length and experience to an otherwise young receiver room. Ideally, Bowick’s length should help him compete with Collin Dixon and Malik Elzy on the perimeter. Though the Illini receiver room is talented, they are all still young and will be in larger roles next season. The addition of Bowick helps bridge the gap in a major way.

Look for Illinois football to continue to add pieces on the offensive side of the ball including more wide receivers, offensive linemen, and tight ends. So far, Bowick is the third portal addition for the Illini thus far this offseason.
