The Portal Report on “X” is back at it again with more portal recruiting tidbits for Illinois Basketball. This time, with news concerning a Big Ten Transfer who is receiving interest from the Illini, among a plethora of other programs. Minnesota Transfer Pharrel Payne decided to enter his name into the portal on Thursday. Of course, the same day Illinois took down the Iowa State Cyclones in the Sweet Sixteen. Furthermore, advancing them to the Elite 8. Certainly a resume booster to add to the recruiting pitch for Underwood and staff.

The Golden Gopher Sophomore Forward was able to hold down an average of 10 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in 2023-24. The big man shot over 60% from the floor as well. A productive player, who was one of 3 guys who decided to step away from the Minnesota Program on Thursday. A prime opportunity for the Illinois Basketball staff to make their impression, and close on a much needed position. Of course, as Coleman Hawkins and Quincy Guerrier move on to the next steps in their careers. The 6’9, 255 pound sophomore could make a productive developmental big man to pair with Dain Dainja and Armani Hansberry in 2024-25.
