Former Illini Nate Hobbs signs major deal with Green Bay Packers

Former Illini defensive back, Nate Hobbs, signed a four-year 48 million dollar deal with the Green Bay Packers. Hobbs played four years with the Las Vegas Raiders and played a rather significant role. He was a fifth-round pick for the Raiders in 2021 and played immediately. Out of the 51 games that he played, 38 games were starts. Nate Hobbs has a vertical leap of approximately 40.5 inches. It will be interesting to see him compete in a very competitive NFC North.
Nate Hobbs was a part of Lovie Smith’s first class at Illinois and also made the field almost immediately with his incredible athleticism and ball-hawking skills. Hobbs never played for current Illini coach, Bret Bielema, however, he certainly is still a part of the “DB U” sell that the Illini have put together.
DB U?
Nate Hobbs, Tony Adams, Sydney Brown, Kerby Joseph, Devon Witherspoon, and Quan Martin are all former Illini defensive backs who now play in the NFL. All of them play sizeable roles on their respective teams. Brown is a SuperBowl champion, while Joseph and Witherspoon are all-pro defensive backs. With new defensive back coach, Corey Parker, also coaching current Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell, Illinois has a major sell for recruits at DB.
