Illinois Basketball Hosts Top 2025 Prospect
It is around that time where Illinois Basketball is starting to finish up their recruiting for 2024. Morez Johnson, Jason Jakstys and Jase Butler currently comprise a very solid class of 2024. Illinois is likely done unless a top prospect chooses to reclass to the class of 2024, however they are starting to zone in on some prospects in the Class of 2025. One of the main themes of this class seems to be wings who can shoot. As expected, they lose Terrence Shannon, Coleman Hawkins, Marcus Domask and Quincy Guerrier. However, by the time the class of 2025 rolls in, Luke Goode will have graduated and Ty Rodgers and Sencire Harris will be seniors.
Illinois is looking to add perimeter shooting. As a result, a main target will be in-state prospect Aleks Alston who visited Champaign this weekend.

Dead Eye Shooter
Per 247sports, Alston ranks as a top 100 prospect and as the best prospect in the state of Illinois. Though these rankings are fluid, it is good to see Illinois building a relationship early. Alston is a 4-star prospect with offers from Iowa, Ohio State, Georgia and more. Alston currently plays for the Mac Irvin Fire, whom the Illini had a great relationship while Chin Coleman was an assistant. The Kenwood Academy star is a 6 foot 9 lefty who has a smooth outside shot
Alston was on campus alongside Jeremiah Fears, who made his official visit over the weekend. Aleks Alston was pictured talking to Terrence Shannon, a fellow Mac Irvin alum and Chicagoland native.
All Eyes on Fears
Jeremiah Fears is probably the top concern for Illinois and their fans, however it is important to keep an eye on Alston. Alston seems like the type of player that could make an immediate impact at Illinois with his smooth shooting stroke and length. It will be interesting to see how his frame builds out as he continues to try to be the best player in the state.
