Former Illinois Basketball Commit Announces New Destination
Former Illini basketball commit, Jeremiah Fears, announces his plans for the season.
Former Illinois Basketball commit Jeremiah Fears announced on his social media that he is committing to the University of Oklahoma. Fears reopened his recruitment earlier in the month of July after buzz grew that he wanted to reclassify into the class of 2024. That will now be the case as Fears will enter the class of 2024 and suit up for the Oklahoma Sooners during the 2024-2025 season. In the class of 2025 per 247sports, Fears is the No. 32 prospect and sixth ranked combo guard.
Jeremiah has shown that he is a talented scoring guard. In the past week, Fears put up a 35 points and 8-rebound performance at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam.

Unfortunate timing
Jeremiah Fears seemed all in on being a part of Illinois basketball. However, as time went on, it became more evident that Jeremiah was set on starting his college basketball career as soon as possible. He has already graduated high school and always seemed to want to reclassify into the class of 2024. It seems that Illinois basketball preferred to have Jeremiah work on his frame and would not have been able to provide the role that Jeremiah wanted to expedite his path to the NBA.
If Fears reclassified to the class of 2024, the Illinois basketball roster is simply too deep for the young guard to safely grab meaningful minutes. Who knows though? Recently, Derek Piper of Illiniinquirer.com released a story about Kylan Boswell and his path back to Champaign. Perhaps Jeremiah Fears could one day go down that same route. Time will tell, but for now, we all root for Jeremiah Fears in the Oklahoma jersey.
