Illinois Basketball makes top six for four-star Power Forward
Per Joe Tipton of On3sports, Illinois basketball has made the top six for Canadian power forward, Spencer Ahrens. Ahrens named Illinois among his top six, alongside Gonzaga, Washington, Stanford, Boise State, and San Francisco. The 6-foot-9 forward took an official visit to Champaign at the beginning of August. The Illini were supposedly trending in the right direction for Ahrens at that time, however, the buzz went silent shortly afterward. Not much has been heard about Illinois and Ahrens since that week in August.

A strong fit:
Theoretically, Spencer Ahrens would have a role in Champaign. After this coming season, the Illini will lose Ben Humrichous. As a stretch big, Ahrens would fit in seamlessly. This past summer, Ahrens was teammates with current Illinois basketball freshman, Will Riley, during the Nike EYBL. Spencer is a native of Canada who missed the summer of 2023 with a shoulder injury. After missing the summer, Ahrens flew under the radar on the prep recruiting cycle. However, his strong play over summer has earned him some high major interest.
Ahrens played with the Canadian national team during the U18 FIBA World Cup. He played pretty well and averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds on a 36.4 percent three-point percentage. For reference, current Illinois basketball freshman, Morez Johnson Jr played the same World Cup and averaged 8 points and 9 rebounds.
