Illinois Football Enrollee Visits SEC Program

Early Monday afternoon, Steve Robertson of 247 reported that Illinois enrolee, Josaiah Knight has just completed a visit to Mississippi State. Knight is a three-star prospect who committed to Illinois in mid-August after de-committing from Cincinnati. Josaiah was an early enrolee for the Illini; he was introduced on national signing day and was even announced during a basketball game. Difficult to say what happened, however, it seems that Knight and Illinois are no longer a match.

247sports ranked Josaiah as a top 600 prospect and was the second highest-ranked early enrollee. This is super strange seeing an enrollee visit another school, but it is safe to say that the marriage between Knight and Illinois is over.

What’s next?

Illinois has a rather thin and unproven defensive line. Keith Randolph, Jer’zhan Newton, and Denzel Daxon are no longer a part of the Illinois front. Illinois Football has worked extremely hard in the transfer portal to fill in the holes, however, all the additions remain unproven. Though Knight would have been unlikely to contribute as a true freshman, he could have been an interesting long-term piece with his length and athleticism. With Seth Coleman about to use his last year of eligibility, Illinois Football needs depth.

They do not have much young talent in the OLB room. Despite this, look for Bret Bielema to add some players through the transfer portal to fill up the remaining holes on this roster.
