Illinois football flips former Iowa State Commit Gavin Ericson-Staton
Illinois football has successfully flipped the commitment of three-star offensive lineman Gavin Ericson-Staton from the Iowa State Cyclones. Ericson-Staton is a top offensive tackle in the state of Illinois who currently plays his high school ball at Montini Catholic in Lombard, IL. Gavin also held offers from Minnesota, Kansas State, and Iowa State. He is the sixth commitment to the Illinois football class of 2027 and the fifth total in-state prospect.
Thus far, the Illini have had a great start on the offensive line in their class of 2027. In addition to Ericson-Staton, the Illini hold the commitments of Soren Fifer and Mason Halliman. The Illini were also able to land some talented offensive line prospects in the class of 2026. Offensive line coach Bart Miller was able to land four-star prospects Micah “Champ” Smith and Kai Pritchard, as well as three-star prospects Landen Von Seggern and Casey Thomann.
Gavin Ericson-Staton is the second prospect in the class of 2027 to commit to Illinois this weekend. Previously, Iowa tight end Cade Newman announced his commitment to the Illini over an offer from Iowa State.
