Illinois Football Flips North Carolina Commit

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, in-state Tight End Logan Farrell has flipped his commitment from North Carolina to Illinois Football.

The Arlington Heights (IL) native committed to the Tarheels in the fall of 2023. However, following a recent visit to Champaign, the 6’3 240lb tight end decided staying home was the move. Farrell took to social media on Monday evening, stating, “Change of plans, staying home!” – (@LoagnFarrell87 on X)

The dynamic receiving TE boosts the Illini’s future depth at an increasingly crucial position. Farrell joins fellow in-state TE Grant Smith (Maora Forsyth) in adding more versatility to the room. Logan Farrell compliments the current tight-end room of  Tanner Arkin, Carson Goda, and Henry Boyer. Clearly, the Illini are trying to add some versatility to an important position in their program.

The Winning Effect

Following last weekend’s big win, Bret Bielema told the media that he expected some in-state recruits, who were committed elsewhere, to change their minds. It certainly did not take long before the first domino fell. If the Illini continue to win, there will undoubtedly be more in-state players who will follow Farrell’s path to stay home.  It’s an intriguing sell to help the flagship university continue to build something great.

Coach Bielema is building a stable, winning program in Champaign. As the rest of the country continues to take notice, the effects will become increasingly evident in attracting high-level athletes from Illinois.
