Illinois Football news: 2026 WR Davon Grant commits to the Illini

NEWS: Illinois football has landed its third commitment in the class of 2026. DeKalb wide receiver, Davon Grant, announced on his social media that he will be committing to the University of Illinois over offers from Iowa and Wisconsin. Grant is the first in-state player in the class and is certainly a statement recruit for the Illini as they continue to work in the northern suburbs of the state. DaVon Grant measures out at 6 foot 4 and 200 lbs which is rather impressive as a possible wide receiver. Per Jeremy Werner of IlliniInquirer, Grant is being recruited by other programs on the defensive side of the ball, however, the Illini seem willing to have Grant play on offense.

At 6 foot 4 and 200 lbs, Grant will be an intriguing option on the perimeter. In fact, I am sure the Illini will consider playing him at Tight End if his frame continues to fill out.

Big expectations for the class of 2026

Coming off of a Citrus Bowl win and a 10-win season, the class of 2026 has the chance to be one of Bret Bielema’s best at Illinois. He now has tangible results, NFL Draft picks, and an engaged fanbase to sell to recruits on top of the personal relationships that Bret Bielema and his staff excel at building.

Heading into the summer, Illinois football likes to build a strong foundation of solid commits before swinging for the fences. With the addition of Davon Grant, QB Michael Clayton, and EDGE Kingston Shaw, the Illini have done that.
