Illinois Football: Week 3 Injury Report ahead of Western Michigan
Per head coach, Bret Bielema, the Illini should be heading into their week three matchup relatively healthy.

Memorial Stadium will be rocking this Saturday as Illinois Football hosts the Western Michigan Broncos for a sold-out primetime (6 PM) showdown in Champaign. The Illini are coming off a big road win at Duke, while the Broncos hit the road still chasing their first victory of the season, following a narrow overtime loss to North Texas last week.
Fortunately for Illinois, despite a few health scares in their domination of the Blue Devils, most of their key contributors are healthy entering week 3. This gives Bielema’s No. 9-ranked squad a boost as they prepare for a game in which the veteran Illini are heavily favored. In fact, there’s even a chance for a key contributor on the defensive side of the ball.
Most notably, however, early indications suggest the Illini could have some important pieces back in the rotation for this matchup, who found themselves sidelined at times against Duke.
Illinois Football Week 2 Injury Report, Per Bret Bielema
According to Bielema, the majority of Illinois’ top players are healthy. He expects most of them to be ready for Saturday’s matchup vs Western Michigan.
In fact, there’s a chance the Illini could see some important producers return to the rotation after recovering from offseason injuries.
“From an injury standpoint, I know Aidan Laughery and Dylan Rosiek didn’t finish the game, but they weren’t just eliminated — it was just a decision we made at that time for where they were at. So, there’s a very good chance we get to have them on Saturday,” Bielema said.
The Illini head coach, who typically keeps his cards close to the vest, added, “I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but they’re not out of the game yet, at all. So, we’ll see where those two guys end up.”
Bielema also touched on Jaheim Clarke’s status, saying, “Outside chance for Saturday. So, I don’t know if he’ll be back with us yet, but I do expect him, the following week (vs Indiana), to be with us.“
Wrapping up his injury report, Bielema emphasized the team’s focus on recovery: “We’ve got some guys going through some things. We did play a long fourth-quarter game in the heat. We have to be really smart up front—put a lot of stress on our support staff for hydration, recovery, and soft tissue work, both yesterday and today, to hit the practice field tomorrow. We’ll be ready.”
UPDATE as of Thursday (9/11)
Bielema updated the status of Aidan Laughery, Dylan Rosiek, and a couple of others report on Thursday (9/11), as the Illini press onward towards Saturday night’s sold-out throwdown. However, it’s worth noting that Bielema, like most good head coaches, doesn’t like to put all of his rosters cards on the table.
That said, Illini head coach began by stating, “Aidan Laughery was out there today. I think it’s going to be a gametime decision for him. But, he’s done really, really well. Had a big day yesterday, a big jump. So, I think today, another jump in the right direction, so, we’ll see where we’re at Saturday.” Seemingly, a positive update on the Junior running back.
Bielema continued with an update on Junior Defensive Lineman Daniel Brown, who suffered an undisclosed injury against Duke. “Daniel Brown unfortunately got an injury in the second half. Had a small procedure on Tuesday (9/9). We’ll miss him this week, next week — good chance he might be back 3 weeks from now (week 5 vs USC), but, he won’t be out there this week.”
Bielema continued with an update On Junior DB Jahiem Clarke, who hasn’t yet seen the field yet in 2025, due to a hamstring injury he suffered over the offseason. “Juice will not be with us,” said Bielema. “Thought there was an outside chance coming into this week, but, I think he’ll be back next week.
Update on Dylan Rosiek
Defensive captain Dylan Rosiek didn’t finish last week’s blowout of Duke, after being sidelined in the second half. Bielema said keeping him off the field wasn’t entirely necessary due to the severity of the injury, and it was ultimately a coaching decision based on the game’s progress and how Rosiek was feeling. However, after missing the final quarter of last season season (2024) with a broken foot, this situation certainly came with some concern. Luckily, Bielema’s update was positive. “Rosie actually practiced yesterday, a little bit today, and I think he’ll be able to go. What we’re planning right now, is to see where he’s at on saturday. It’s supposed to be another hot one, so, we’ll see exactly where he’s at on saturday.
