Illinois Women’s Basketball Wins WBIT Championship
Great time to be an Illini! The Illinois Women’s basketball team has just won the 2024 WBIT championship. In year two of Shauna Green’s tenure as the head coach, Illinois women’s basketball continues its upward trajectory. The ladies were led by a strong performance from Makira Cook. Cook scored 27 total points in the game, including 22 points in the second half alone. Kendall Bostic contributed with another one of her vintage double-doubles. Bostic had a robust 15 points and 15 rebounds in the 71-57 win over the Villanova Wildcats.

Upward Trend
After making the NCAA tournament in year one, Coach Green led her crew to a 19-15 record. That record includes winning six of their last seven games. The Women’s basketball team had a rough start to the season. On January 25th, they sat at 8-10 overall with a 2-6 record in the Big Ten. Going 11-5 and earning some kind of postseason trophy is strong momentum heading into the third year of the Shauna Green Era. Coach Green brings in a very strong recruiting class, including five-star Berry Wallace.
Coach Green and Coach Underwood have done a fabulous job with the basketball programs. Despite the hardships, both programs appear to have found a sustained level of success that seemed difficult to attain given their predecessors.
