Getting to Know 2025 Offensive Line Commit Dylan Frechette

Illinois Football recently signed 3-star West Palm Beach (FL) native Dylan Frechette. Dylan joins Griffin RousseauMichael McDonough, and JJ Hirdes as the class of 2025 haul of offensive linemen. Despite originally committing to FIU, Frechette flipped his pledge to the Illini, shortly before the early signing period on December 3rd.

The athletic interior mauler from Cardinal Newman (HS) is currently the 117th-ranked interior offensive lineman in the nation according to 247Sports. Furthermore, Dylan’s recruiting saw quite a boost as a result, thanks to an impressive senior season. His offer list includes Pittsburgh, Miami, UMass, Southern Miss, Akron, Arkansas State, Bryant, FIU, Georgia Southern, Illinois State, North Carolina A&T, Old Dominion, Troy, West Georgia, Western Kentucky, and, of course, Illinois.

However, despite an extensive list of opportunities, the Fighting Illini felt like family for the Florida native.

Thankfully, Dylan was kind enough to share more about his tough decision, and what led him to choose Illinois Football as his destination for the next level.

What Made the Illini Staff Stand Out Among Your Other Offers?

“So far from what I’ve heard from my fellow high school teammate and Illini commit Xanai Scott the Illinois staff treats you like family, and are very eager to work. As you may know, I haven’t taken my official visit up there (To Champaign) yet, But, I plan to next month. Can’t wait to come see what my home for the next 4 years is all about.”

What Sparked Your Interest in Illinois Football, and Which Staff Member Made the Strongest Impression?

“My recruitment with Illinois started very recently actually with me being committed to FIU previously and their head coach (Mike Macintyre) being fired. Coach (Bret) Bielema believed in me, and believe I could be an NFL guard one day. So, he took a shot on me.  Knowing him and my current head coach have a good connection, he made sure to reach out and we made it happen.”

You’ve Played Tackle but Are Projected to Play on the Interior For Illinois. Which Position Do You Feel Best Fits Your Skills at the Next Level?

“I will be helping out at the guard/center position at the next level, but I do believe I can definitely hold it down at the tackle position as well.”

Which NFL Player Do You See Yourself Comparing To? What Aspects of Their Game Do You Feel Reflect Your Own Style?

“Right now I like to compare my play style to Trent Williams because we both play with physicality in the box and could move really well for big men.”

What the Film Tells Us

Frechette’s strength at the point of attack offers him the ability to play any position on the offensive front-five. Certainly, his versatility is a valuable trait for the future Bart Miller’s future O-Line depth in 2026 and beyond.
However, Frechette will likely begin his career on the interior for the Illini. His large stature (6’5 – 335) paired with his quickness, bodes well for a guard/center looking to make a name Big Ten. Dylan possesses the ability to get into the second level, and extend run plays, giving rushers the ability to break off larger chunk yardage, or home run plays.
With development, Frechette could find himself in the two-deep, following the graduations of redshirt juniors Josh Kreutz and Josh Gesky. However, getting into Big Ten shape under Coach Tank Wright will be key to his success at the next level.
