Illini Soccer caps off successful road trip with win over VA Tech

Illini soccer starts conference play on Thursday September 10th.

Illini soccer picked up two road wins over the past week to make their record 3-0-3. The Illini started the trip on Thursday, September 3rd, when they beat the Western Michigan Broncos 3-0. Three different Illini soccer players scored that game, including Cayla Jackson, Ashley Stellon, and Hedda Ornberg. Sophomore forward Ashlyn Adams had a stellar game as she assisted on Stellon and Ornberg’s goals. In Sunday’s match vs Virginia Tech, Sophomore forward Ryleigh Wood scored a key first-half goal to beat the Hokies, 1-0.

Star goalkeeper Izzy Lee also continued her strong play by not allowing a single goal over the road trip. Lee is one of the best goalkeepers in the country, and her strong play continues to anchor the Illini’s defense. After some tough ties at home, head coach Katie Hultin is looking to carry some momentum as they start conference play this week on September 10th. The Illini soccer team will host Wisconsin to kick off Big Ten play at 6 pm Thursday evening at Demirjian Park.

Wisconsin is currently ranked 16th in the country and has a 4-1-1 record. They will be the Illini’s strongest test as they look to build on the momentum created on this road trip.
