Illini Soccer Earns First Win of Season, Beats Cincinnati 2-1 on Late Ornberg Goal

Illini Soccer grabs its first win of the season! The Illini won a thriller at home vs Cincinnati Bearcats under the bright lights of Demirjian Park 2-1. Senior forward Hedda Ornberg knocked in a goal in the 86th minute to put the Illini up one goal vs the Bearcats. Striker Cayla Jackson started it off with some slick passing to Sophomore forward Ashlyn Adams, who helped set up Ornberg for the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Izzy Lee showed why she is one of the best goalkeepers in the conference as he recorded two key saves to help fuel the Illini to victory. Katie Hultin’s squad was aggressive from the jump as they recorded 12 shots to the Bearcats’ five.
Illinois moves to 1-0-1 on the season after drawing their opening match with Georgia.
The Illini next take the field this coming Sunday, August 23rd, for a home game vs the UIC Flames. The game will air on BTN+ at 5 pm CST and is currently advertised as FamILLy night. Illinois played UIC last year and won the game 1-0.
