Penn State typically plays its home games at the Bryce Jordan Center, but will host Illinois inside the historic Palestra on Saturday night. The Palestra is one of the most iconic venues in college basketball and is a site Penn State uses annually.
The Nittany Lions have labeled this matchup a “White Out” as they attempt to pull off another upset in an alternate home setting, like what they accomplished against Illinois in 2024. That season, Penn State edged the Illini 90–89 at Rec Hall, which seats just 6,502 fans. Illinois responded last year with a dominant 91–52 win, and a similar result could be in store this weekend.
Illinois basketball is 10–3 on the season and has looked stronger overall than the 9–4 Nittany Lions. Penn State is coming off a win over North Carolina Central on Monday night, but has struggled against high-major opponents, losing all four such games this season.
Freshman Kayden Mingo leads Penn State in scoring at 14.8 points per game, followed closely by junior Freddie Dilione V at 14.5 points per contest, along with freshman Melih Tunca. That backcourt trio will be tested by Illinois guards Kylan Boswell and Keaton Wagler.
Illinois enters as a heavy favorite and should be well-positioned to earn its second Big Ten win of the season. A third straight victory appears to be within reach for the Illini on Saturday night.
