Ty Rodgers Injury update from Illini basketball coach Brad Underwood
Rodgers was expected to be a key player on an Illini roster that really needs his skill set.
Illini basketball wing Ty Rodgers was an unfortunate scratch from team activities this summer. Rodgers, who redshirted the 2024-2025 season, elected to return to the Illini and was projected as a leader of the team. However, Rodgers unfortunately suffered a severe knee injury while playing a pickup basketball game at the beginning of the summer. Reportedly, Rodgers had successful knee surgery in July and has been attempting to return to the court since then. Anytime a knee surgery is required, the expectation has been that the player will miss most, if not the entire season. When coach Brad Underwood met with the media today on the first day of team practice, he provided a quick update on Rodgers.
Per Underwood, Ty Rodgers does not have a timetable to return. He added, “We’re not expecting him any time real soon coming back from his knee, but that’s up to the doctors and the trainers and how well he responds to certain things…we’ll just keep playing that by ear and when he’s ready, he’s ready.”
Underwood did not rule Rodgers out for the season; however, that is not a very optimistic update.
