Will Riley goes off for 25 points in NBA G-league debut
The former Illini is finally getting some court time in the NBA G-league and is making the most of his opportunity
Will Riley has had a rather quiet start to his professional basketball career. In his first career NBA G-League game, Riley scored 25 points on 11-17 from the field. Additionally, Riley contributed seven assists, six rebounds, and one steal. Riley put on a show on the offensive side of the ball. He showcased his shooting ability and his smooth finishing ability at the rim. The former Illini is just 19 years old and is already an effortless scorer. This was Will Riley’s first game in the NBA G-League after playing minimal minutes for the Washington Wizards.
If Riley can showcase his playmaking ability, while also improving in catch-and-shoot situations and defensive versatility, he will surely get another crack at an NBA rotational spot. The former Illini had a stellar freshman season in Champaign and was subsequently selected 21st overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. Given the makeup of the Wizards’ roster, I expect Riley to spend an extended amount of time playing in the NBA G-League this year. Riley’s team next plays on Sunday, November 16th. There is no doubt that the Illini nation is rooting for Will’s success! Hopefully, Will can get another crack at an NBA rotation again this year.
