Former Illini Ayo Dosunmu thriving with the Minnesota Timberwolves
Dosunmu is thriving in his new role on the Timberwolves and has quickly turned into a fan favorite
Ayo Dosunmu was unfortunately traded by his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls, last month. Dosunmu, who has steadily improved each season, was dealt to the Wolves after the Bulls finally decided to hit the reset button on their roster. Though it was tough to see Ayo leave his hometown, he has been stellar in his time as a Minnesota Timberwolves guard.
Through 18 games, Ayo Dosunmu has averaged 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He has continued an impressively efficient season, shooting 52.5% from the field and 42.9 percent from the three-point line. Dosunmu has thrived in Minnesota’s tempo offense and continues to play well on both sides of the ball. His energy and ability to get to the paint have really helped Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, and Jaden McDaniels get easy baskets. With superstar Anthony Edwards out with an injury, look for Dosunmu to continue to get heavy minutes. However, it is notable that Ayo missed the past game with a calf injury
Head coach Chris Finch had major compliments regarding the way that Dosunmu has played. ” He’s really good against those types of teams, because he plays the force, and he plays straight lines, and he plays quick.
It has been really cool to see Ayo Dosunmu thrive on a winning team. On top of that, he has shared the court with fellow Illini great, Terrence Shannon Jr. Though Shannon Jr. is still trying to establish a clear role, Dosunmu and Shannon Jr. sharing the court is a fun sight for all Illini fans
