The Illinois QB room
For the 2025 season, Luke Altymer heads the room. However, the position remains open to the future prospects waiting for their time. The room is highlighted by some youngsters. Redshirt freshman Trey Petty was a highly touted recruit who will be the elder statesman of the room once Altmyer leaves. St Louis QB Carson Boyd has gained some serious praise in just his first spring training camp and appears to be one of the top options for the position. On top of that, the Illini are bringing in three-star QB Michael Clayton II out of Florida, who also holds a slew of power-five offers.
It will be interesting to see who the Illini go with in the 2026 season. However, all three of Boyd, Petty, and Clayton should be ready to compete for the starting job come 2027. With Lopati in the mix now, that room just became a whole lot more talented than it already is.
