Jacas had a storied four year career with Illinois.
Gabe Jacas has been selected 55th overall by the New England Patriots in the 2026 NFL Draft. Jacas is the first Illini player to be selected in this year’s draft. The Patriots will certainly be getting a boost to the defense as Jacas is an impressive physical specimen. Per NFL.com, he received an NFL comparison to former great Matthew Judon. Over Judon’s career, he has recorded 72 sacks. To be compared to Judon is certainly impressive and worthy of the abilities that Jacas possesses.

A storied Illini career
Gabe Jacas had an impactful four-year career with the Illini. The Port Saint Lucie native was actually initially committed to Tulane before choosing Illinois over a strong offer from the Tennessee Volunteers. Over four seasons, Jacas recorded 184 total tackles, 27 sacks, and 7 forced fumbles. He was a Team captain and a three-time All-Big Ten selection. Jacas was so physically imposing and an anchor for the Illini defense over his career.
There was no doubt that he would become a surefire NFL prospect and play on Sundays for years to come. With the Patriots, Jacas will continue his physical, athletic play in the trenches. He will be yet another former Illini football defensive player who is making an impact on an NFL team.
