Illini G Mihailo Petrovic Officially Cleared by NCAA
MAJOR news to come through to Champaign as the 22 year old guard will have three years of eligibility.
Breaking News: The Illinois Athletics department has officially confirmed that 4-star Serbian guard Mihailo Petrovic has been cleared by the NCAA to compete in the 2025-26 season, effective immediately. Per the release, Petrovic is a Sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.
This is massive news for Brad Underwood’s crew, as the Fighting Illini’s newly assembled roster — featuring a blend of experienced transfers and international European prep recruits — is now fully cleared for the 2025–26 season opener on November 3rd against Jackson State.

Prior to arriving in Champaign, the 6’3, 22-year-old guard most recently suited up for Mega Superbet of the Adriatic League’s First Division (ABA), where he averaged an impressive 14.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field and 33% from deep.
With so much transition from Serbia to the States, it may take Mihailo some time to fully settle in during his first season in Champaign. Still, his crafty ball-handling and creative scoring abilities make him an intriguing option in Brad Underwood’s backcourt rotation behind starter Kylan Boswell. With 3 years of eligibility as a Euro League transfer, the talented Sophomore (technically) has time to adapt and develop in Underwood’s system. Unfortunately, Petrovic is currently struggling with a hamstring injury. This may limit his availability/role to start the season. However, major news came just one week before tip-off versus Jackson State.
