Illini QB Luke Altmyer throws for 390 yards in rout of Purdue
The Illini took down the Purdue Boilermakers 43-27. The 22nd-ranked Illini overcame a tough start and took advantage of costly turnovers by Purdue to take control in the second half. It was certainly a standout performance for senior QB Luke Altmyer. Altmyer threw 22 times and completed 19 of those attempts (one of those incompletions was a drop on a screen play by Ca’lil Valentine). He accounted for one passing touchdown and threw for 390 yards. Luke Altmyer continues to shine under Barry Lunney Jr. His poise and IQ have helped him be the perfect game manager for the Illini, who can also make plays in a time of need.
Altmyer has played himself into the conversation as a top QB in the nation. Next week, he will certainly be tested by the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Hopefully, center Josh Kreutz will return from injury to help protect Luke Altmyer from the pressure that the Buckeyes are sure to bring. So far, Luke has not thrown an interception this entire season. For someone who throws the ball as well and as often as he does, that is undoubtedly impressive and deserves national praise.
