Illinois basketball offers in-state 2027 forward Ed Stasys
Illinois basketball has a proven track record of evaluation and development.
Illinois basketball became the first high-major program to offer Class of 2027 forward Edvardas (Ed) Stasys. Stasys is a 6-foot-7-inch forward from Lisle, Illinois, who also holds offers from Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Toledo. This past season, Stasys averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds for his high school, Benet Academy. Stasys has seen his recruiting start to pick up this current summer given strong play with the Illinois Wolves AAU program. Though he is undersized for the power forward/center position, Stasys makes up for this with a working motor and fine touch around the rim. He shows above-average athleticism and is a really strong finisher around the hoop.
As of now, Illinois basketball has two prospects in the class of 2027 in Mason Martin and Quinton Kitt.
What the offer means
Illinois basketball continues to show that they still value prep recruiting. Though they have brought in a lot of immediate impact, high-profile recruits, they have also valued players who are bought into the developmental side of college basketball. In this past class, they signed guys like Landon Davis, Zavier Zens, and Ethan Brown who were all under-the-radar guys, so to speak. However, all these guys are bought into the long-term development of their games and understand that they will be playing college basketball for multiple years.
Stasys is no different; he is a player with high-major traits but is undersized and needs to work on his frame before being a high-major contributor.
Before the summer ends, I would expect Illinois basketball to really push to land Ed Stasys.
