Illinois basketball offers in-state sharpshooter Mason Martin
The Illini offer Martin, one of the best in-state prospects in the class of 2027.
Illinois basketball has offered 6-foot-5 sharpshooter Mason Martin out of Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Illinois. Martin is certainly one of the best shooters in the class of 2027 and is slowly coming into his own on the court. Recently, Martin dropped 27 points in a win over Yorkville High School. Earlier in the season, he went for a 41-point performance on an electric 11 made 3-pointers in a win over West Aurora.
Martin was kind enough to talk with Armchair Illini to share some thoughts on the offer. Mason stated, “The offer means a lot to me because it is the hometown school and how much support they have in our area. The Illinois basketball program as a whole has been nothing short of impressive with all of its coaches, players, and facilities. ”
More on Martin’s game
“I regard myself as a 3-level scorer that is a really good shooter,” Martin stated. In regards to what the Illinois basketball staff likes about him, he said that “They love how I can get my shot off at any time and how much of a threat I am to the defense.” Martin added ” I like to model my game and watch players like Tyler Herro and Luka Doncic. Those are players who are not very gifted athletically but are still really effective and can get their shot off at any time
In terms of his recruitment, Mason says that he is looking at a couple of mid-majors and some other high majors. He does not have any other visits planned as of right now. As a Sophomore in the class of 2027, expect Martin’s game to gain some real steam as the summer creeps up. I am certainly super excited to watch his shooting stroke hit the Nike EYBL and AAU circuit!
