Illinois basketball receives strong praise from Minnesota HC Niko Medved
With less than half the Big Ten schedule left, the Illini are solidifying their status as a title contender.
Illinois basketball won its seventh straight game in a row vs the Minnesota Golden Gophers 77-67. The Illini withstood a gritty Minnesota team that has some nice wins this year in the Big Ten. The Illini withstood the Gophers’ best punches and ultimately broke away at the end of the game.
Illinois is now 6-1 in Big Ten play and is certainly going to be in the race for the Big Ten regular-season title down the stretch. After the game, Minnesota head coach Niko Medved had some really positive words for the Illini.
“It would not surprise me at all to see this team playing late, late, late in the year.”
We could certainly chalk this up to coach talk, but Illinois basketball is a certified contender. Right now, they are sixth overall on Kenpom wielding the second overall offense and twenty-second overall defense. They are an outstanding 7-3 in games within the first two quadrants on the Net rankings. Strong guard play wins in March, and the Illini have one of the best backcourts in the country in Kylan Boswell and Keaton Wagler. At 15-3, the Illini are a force to be reckoned with.
