Illinois basketball to host five-star guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. for Official Visit

Illinois basketball will receive an official visit from five-star guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. 247sports’ DuShawn London first reported the news on social media platforms.

NaVorro Bowman Jr. is the son of former Pro Bowl linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

Bowman Jr.’s game

Simply put, NaVorro Bowman Jr. is a bucket getter. He scored 33 points in a recent EYBL game and was able to get his shot off from about anywhere. Similar to another Illini target, Brady Pettigrew, Bowman Jr. has a competitive edge that makes him extremely fun to watch. After his performance at the Nike Peach Jam event, Bowman Jr. rose to 10th overall in 247sports’ class of 2027 rankings. He is a true five-star prospect and is arguably the best scorer at the guard position in the class.

Bowman Jr. will also visit UCONN, Arizona, and  Texas. All three schools recruit the guard spot extremely well and have really strong sells for five-star prospects. However, the Illini have quite the recent run of guards that make them just as desirable a destination. With Keaton Wagler going fifth overall in the 2026 NBA Draft, and a run to the 2026 Final Four, Illinois basketball has just as good a sell as any program in the country.

The date of Bowman Jr.’s official visit has yet to be determined.

How does he fit?

Bowman Jr. would be a centerpiece in what will be a new-look Illinois basketball team in 2027. Though college basketball eligibility rules are always fluid, Andrej Stojakovic, the Ivisic twins, and Jake Davis will all run out of eligibility this year. Additionally, the Illini seem to expect that at least two of the trio of David Mirkovic, Quentin Coleman, and Stefan Vaaks will have the chance to pursue NBA careers after this season.

That means the Illini are going to have to replace a lot of perimeter scoring after this season. Bowman Jr. would be an ideal fit at the lead guard position.
