Illinois Football a -4.5 Underdog to Nebraska Despite Recent Momentum
Can Illinois Football pull off the upset over Nebraska to clinch bowl eligibility? Vegas isn’t sold yet…
The Illinois Football team has found its footing at the right time, putting together 3 consecutive wins as the 2026 regular season enters its final month. After navigating some difficult stretches earlier in the season, Bret Bielema’s program suddenly has an opportunity to secure bowl eligibility and continue building momentum heading into a November stretch featuring four important matchups.
After taking down Maryland 20-17 on the road, Bielema’s crew now returns to Champaign for a Friday night matchup against a Nebraska team heading in the opposite direction. Despite opening the season 5-0, the Cornhuskers have dropped 3 straight games against Indiana, Oregon, and Washington. With bowl eligibility still within reach for Matt Rhule’s program, the Huskers are desperate to get back in the win column.
Meanwhile, Illinois has won 3 straight in the Big Ten, including victories over Michigan State, Oregon, and Maryland. With quarterback Katin Houser back under center after his hand injury, the Illini will look to keep that momentum rolling in front of their home crowd.
However, playing a team with its back against the wall can present its own challenges for the Illini. Despite Nebraska’s recent struggles, the oddsmakers aren’t convinced Illinois will get the job done at home. According to ESPN and DraftKings Sportsbook, the Illini are currently 4.5-point underdogs heading into Friday night’s matchup.
Will Illinois prove the oddsmakers wrong and clinch that ever-important 6th win? Or will Rhule’s Cornhuskers finally find their footing and get back on track in a tough road environment in Champaign?
