Illinois Football Adds 3-Star JUCO OL Alfred Washington
Illinois Football is wasting no time addressing future OL depth in Bart Miller’s room for 2026 and beyond.
NEWS: Despite still being in the thick of the 2025 season, the Illinois football staff has already shifted part of its focus toward strengthening future depth — especially with this year’s roster being so heavily veteran-driven. On Tuesday, the Illini kicked off efforts to strengthen the trenches, securing a verbal commitment from 3-star JUCO offensive lineman Alfred Washington, who flipped from Marshall after an official visit to Champaign in early November (11/3).
Washington, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound product of Pensacola, Florida, has spent the past two seasons developing in the junior college ranks at Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he emerged as one of the top JUCO tackles in the country — currently ranked No. 4 nationally among JUCO offensive tackle prospects, per 247sports. His blend of length, quick mobility for his size, and raw — certainly developmental — power has allowed him to thrive at the JUCO level. That said, his frame and quickness could additionally give Illinois flexibility to slide him inside if needed, dependent on depth, and whether he can add some strength at the point of attack. Washington arrives with two years of eligibility remaining, giving the Illini a physically ready lineman who can compete for the two-deep early — if needed.
His commitment continues a clear trend of Illinois targeting experienced, game-tested JUCO linemen to stabilize the trenches… Those that typically come with a lower cost point in today’s NIL era.
While he may not be expected to step in as an immediate starter, Washington gives Illinois Football a high-upside depth piece who can realistically grow into a significant role. For a roster in transition up front, his addition helps solidify the foundation for 2026 and beyond
