Illinois Football continues stay in the AP Top-10
The Illini come in at number 9 in this week’s AP poll.
Illinois football has now spent two straight weeks at number 9 overall in the AP Poll. The Illini have successfully won all three of their non-conference games and have solidified their status as one of the top teams in the country. Their marquee win thus far has been a road victory over the Duke Blue Devils. Though the Blue Devils may not be as strong a team as people have thought, dominating a team on the road early in the season is a rather good sign. The competition now heats up as Illinois football will start conference play. Their first test is a huge one as they will have to travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to take on the ever-so confident Indiana Hoosiers.
The Hooisers have come alive under head coach Curt Cignetti. However, they barely have any impressive wins in the year and a half that Cignetti has been the head coach. So far, they have held victories over almighty Kennesaw State, Old Dominion, and Indiana State. They will undoubtedly be looking to gain a victory at their place over a top-10 team. The Illini, on the other hand, will be looking to reaffirm that they are a team to look out for and a sleeper pick for the College Football Playoff.
Buckle up, Illini fans, this season is just underway.
