Illinois football signs JUCO defensive lineman Deon Williams
Williams will have three years of eligibility.
Illinois football continues to bulk up its defensive line efforts. Today, JUCO defensive lineman Deon Williams announced that he has signed with the Illini over offers from Colorado, Sacramento State, and Marshall. Williams will have three years of eligibility left and brings added depth to the defensive line room. Deon is a 6-foot-1, 290-pound freshman who had 25 tackles and 3 tackles for loss last season at City College of San Francisco.
Illinois football has significantly replenished its defensive line room with newcomers from the mid-major and JUCO ranks. The additions to the room include Carter Janki from Penn, Isaiah Thomison from Bowling Green, Darrell Prater from Jacksonville State, and JUCO signee Joshua Davis.
With a brand new defensive scheme, it seems that the Illini are looking for defensive linemen who can get upfield quickly. A lot of the defensive linemen the Illini have added show solid speed and ability to get off the line quickly. It will certainly be interesting to see what defensive line coach Jordan Thomas does with this group of intriguing guys from the JUCO and Mid-major level.
