Illinois Football disrespected by four-star QB Trae Taylor
The Illini made some headlines today for some rather odd reasons.
Class of 2027 Four-star QB Trae Taylor announced his commitment to the University of Nebraska today on a live stream. Per 247Sports, Taylor is a four-star prospect and the 35th overall prospect in the class of 2027. He is an Illinois prospect who held offers from some of the best in the country, including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and more. Illinois football had been heavily pursuing the premier prospect and was in the top-five schools for Taylor alongside Nebraska, Texas A&M, LSU, and Michigan. Taylor’s commitment to Nebraska was not a major surprise, however, he took time during the commitment to involve the Illini. The methods, however, were not so respectful to his home-state school.

Imma stay home and go to Illinois..
Taylor initially put on an Illinois football hat and proclaimed that he would “stay home and go to Illinois”. He stood up and paused for a few seconds, and then proceeded to launch the Illinois hat off in a different direction. Afterwards, Taylor picked up a Nebraska hat and unzipped his Nike hoodie to reveal a Nebraska shirt. Ouch. In an age where the transfer portal dominates the world, it is a rather questionable decision to publicly disrespect a school like that.
Illini fans are all too familiar with this feeling as they infamously fell victim to and went viral from the Cliff Alexander fiasco. Despite this, Illinois football should feel rather confident in its quarterback room. They have senior star Luke Altmyer to head up the 2025 season. Afterward, they have an intriguing mix of young talent, including Trey Petty, Carson Boyd, and class of 2026 commit, Michael Clayton.
