Illinois Football Lands Illinois State Transfer Wide Receiver Eddie Kasper
Kasper is a Wheaton Academy graduate who will have a year of eligibility with the Illini.
News: Illinois Football has added some veteran depth to Justin Stepp’s wide receiver core. According to his social media, Illinois State transfer Eddie Kasper has committed and signed with the Fighting Illini. The graduate transfer will have one year of eligibility remaining as he makes the jump from the FCS level to Champaign.
What the Illini are getting in Eddie Kasper
Kasper brings a steady and experienced presence to Champaign after four seasons just 50 miles northwest at Illinois State. Over the course of 41 games in Bloomington (IL), Kasper totaled 1,198 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns on 137 total receptions (avg 8.9 yards per catch), in addition to contributing on special teams as a punt returner. In 2025, the RS-Junior hauled in 36 catches for 322 yards and a touchdown on a team that made a run to the FCS National Championship game.
Though he may not be the “flashiest” addition, Kasper gives new Illini quarterback Katin Houser and OC Barry Lunney Jr.’s offense a dependable, sure-handed target, whose experience in meaningful FCS games adds immediate value and maturity to the receiver room.
With Hank Beatty eyeing an NFL career, and depth pieces Alex Capka-Jones, Ashton Hollins, and Malik Elzy all moving on after entering the transfer portal, there’s a clear opportunity for new contributors to emerge in Lunney’s offense in 2026. While Illinois football will still lean on its returning core and incoming transfers like Florida Atlantic’s Jayshon Platt, bringing in a seasoned, in-state transfer like Eddie adds a proven and productive veteran presence, who could boost the unit heading into spring-ball 2026.
