Illinois football news: WR Jacob Harvey flips commitment to the Illini
NEWS: Illinois football has signed Mt. Zion wide receiver Jacob Harvey. Harvey actually committed to Illinois State earlier this week; however, he officially received an offer on Tuesday night, which prompted a quick decision to flip his commitment to the Illini. Harvey is one of three last-minute additions to the class of 2026, alongside safety Caden Considine and wide receiver Leslie Mosley Jr.
Jacob Harvey is 6 feet 2 and 190 pounds and had a stellar senior season. He caught 53 receptions for 928 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also played on the defensive side of the ball, recording five total pass breakups and one interception.
Illinois football has signed a versatile, skilled prospect that can play at wide receiver or free safety, given his length and ball skills. Remember, Miles Scott and Kerby Joseph were both successful free safeties who were in the wide receiver room at some point. Remember, the Illini consistently add prospects late in the recruiting cycle, and they have typically turned out to play early in their careers. Matthew Bailey, Tanner Heckel, and Mac Resetich were all lightly recruited prospects who were added after National Signing Day and have found the field early in their Illini careers.
