Illinois basketball makes top 6 for guard Lucas Morillo
The rising four-star prospect out of Boston, Massachusetts has an impressive top-6 including the Illini.
Illinois basketball has made the top six for four-star combo guard Lucas Morillo out of the Newman School in Boston, Massachusetts. Joe Tipton of On3sports reported that Morillo has made a top six, including the Illini alongside UCLA, Texas, Virginia, Marquette, and Minnesota. Morillo has already visited Shaka Smart and the Marquette Golden Eagles and should be on campus over the weekend of September 26th. The Illini are in the thick of a recruitment that is slowly starting to blow up. Per 247sports, Morillo is currently the 81st overall prospect in the class of 2026. Overall, he is the 11th-ranked shooting guard in the class.
Illinois basketball currently has two prospects committed in its class of 2026. Combo guard Ethan Brown and stretch-forward Landon Davis currently comprise the class.
The Fit
Despite taking Ethan Brown, a three-star prospect out of Iowa, Illinois basketball is still focusing on adding perimeter players. This makes sense as senior guard Kylan Boswell will be out of eligibility after the 2025-2026 season. However, the Illini certainly cast a wide net. They currently plan on hosting combo-guard Jasiah Jervis during that same weekend that Morillo will be on campus. They will also reportedly host top-25 wing Cameron Holmes for a visit during the weekend of September 12.
Morillo is a 6-foot-7-inch combo-guard that has outstanding feel for the game. He is more of a crafty scorer that is also a very good playmaker. During the Nike EYBL event, Morillo averaged 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals. With a developing frame, Morillo could become a true swiss army knife at the college level.
