Lucas Morillo commits to Illinois! Four-star top-50 Guard announces commitment

News broke earlier today on X that Illinois basketball landed 4-star 2026 prospect Lucas Morillo.

This marks the third 2026 high school prospect that Illinois has landed, as a pair of three-star recruits committed earlier this year. The Illini now have Ethan Brown, Landon Davis, and Lucas Morillo joining the team next season.

Lucas Morillo is ranked No. 32 nationally for the 2026 class according to Rivals and No. 50 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

He’s a 6-7 combo guard who currently attends the Newman School in Boston, Massachusetts. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Morillo also plays for their national team, giving assistant coach Orlando Antigua a strong connection with him.

The 6-7 guard was one of the biggest risers in recruiting rankings back in June, moving up from No. 77 to No. 41, according to Jamie Shaw of On3.

During the EYBL circuit, Morillo averaged 16 PPG, 8 RPG, 4.5 APG, and 1.5 SPG for City Rocks. He earned Breakout MVP honors and was named to The Circuit’s All-EYBL Third Team.

Morillo fits the Brad Underwood mold of being a big guard capable of playing multiple positions. He can create shots for himself and use his size to get into the paint and set up teammates for open looks.

Illinois has built a strong 2026 recruiting class with more potential commitments on the horizon. The backcourt of Keaton Wagler, Brandon Lee, Lucas Morillo, and (maybe) Mihailo Petrovic should give the Illini an impressive group for years to come.
