Niccolò Moretti: Illinois Basketball’s Latest Commit.
Illinois Basketball has Awoken! On Wednesday afternoon, Joe Tipton of On3 reported that Illinois has landed international Point guard, Niccolò Morreti. The 6 foot 2 prospect will enroll at Illinois this month. Moretti was in the middle of a prep season with NBA global academy in Australia after finishing a high school career at DME Academy in Florida
This previous summer, Moretti played at the U18 European Championships for Italy. Moretti averaged a stable 9 points, and just above 3 rebounds and assists per game. With Skyy Clark recently announcing his departure from the team, Brad Underwood adds a primary ballhandler that will certainly get his chance within the next season. Moretti joins a backcourt next year that will likely feature Jayden Epps, Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and Sencire Harris. Out of the three, Moretti projects as the most true point guard.

Pass-first PG, elite vision, has NBA range off the catch and doesn't shy away from taking tough pull-up Js if he needs to. Great hoop genes too.@Niccolomoretti7pic.twitter.com/0fo9E9Bad2

What Moretti Adds:
Moretti is labelled as a strong passer. In his interview with On3 sports, Moretti describes himself as an “old school point guard”. Based off his film, Moretti will not be the above the rim, flashy bucket getter that Gibbs-Lawhorn is. However, he brings a different style which I think Illinois lacks. Though small in stature and probably a below average athlete, Moretti is a pure ball-handler who shows promise as a floor general. Despite Jayden Epps’ large improvements in this facet, Illinois needs that floor general. That became so very evident during Illinois’ midseason struggles.
I think Niccolò Moretti will serve as a strong compliment to the young slew of guards Illinois has acquired. He may not play this season much like Zacharie Perrin, but a half semester with Adam Fletcher and this current team will certainly proof beneficial for the latest Illinois Basketball commit.
Next up, a big time clash against Michigan State. Get your popcorn ready.
