Illinois Football loses WR Justin Bowick to the transfer portal
Bowick was a major red zone target for the Illini during the 2025 season.
247sports Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer reported that Illinois wide receiver Justin Bowick has entered the transfer portal. Bowick was a key piece in the Illinois football receiving room and was a prime red-zone target for Luke Altmyer. Had he chosen to return, Bowick would be in line for a lot more receptions and targets, given senior slot receiver Hank Beatty’s graduation. However, Bowick will now search for his fourth school for his final year of eligibility. Bowick ended the year with 22 receptions and 5 total touchdowns.
What Bowick’s departure means for the 2026 Illinois football WR room
Thus far, the leaders in the 2026 Illinois football receiving room appear to be Collin Dixon and Hudson Clement. Dixon recorded a solid 35 receptions for 548 yards and 5 touchdowns. Clement started the year slowly; however, he ended with 36 receptions, 454 yards, and 3 touchdowns. The Illini will certainly look to the transfer portal for help at receiver, and they are already planning to host UTRGV transfer Tony Diaz. Diaz had a stellar season at UTRGV, where he recorded 67 receptions for 881 yards and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, the Illini are bringing in some talented wideouts in their class of 2026. Nasir Rankin, Kenyon Alston, and DaVon Grant are all prospects who held power-five offers but chose to commit to Illinois. From what we have heard, Rankin and Alston are going to compete for significant reps alongside rising redshirt freshman Brayden Trimble.
