Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr scores first NBA basket
The former Illini got the chance to play in front of his hometown crowd.
Former Illini basketball star, Terrence Shannon Jr, scored his first regular season NBA basket for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Shannon Jr has had a limited role on an extremely deep Timberwolves roster, however, he finally got some game action in a blowout win vs the hometown Chicago Bulls. After scoring his first basket, Shannon Jr. recorded a steal and went on to put down his vintage tomahawk jam on the fastbreak. Though it was toward the end of the game, it was certainly a cool moment for the native of Chicago, Illinois. Scoring your first NBA basket and being able to throw down a highlight reel jam at the United Center is definitely notable.
Given that the Timberwolves play again tonight vs the Portland Trail Blazers, Terrence Shannon Jr. will not be at tonight’s ring ceremony for Illinois basketball.
Continue to improve
Including last night, Terrence Shannon Jr has played 11 total minutes during this regular season. That is certainly a major adjustment for the former Illinois basketball star as he attempts to find a role on the Timberwolves. Right now, it seems that the Timberwolves play an eight-man rotation. Four of those eight players include Anthony Edwards, Mike Conley Jr., Donte DiVincenzo, and Nickiel Alexander-Walker. That is an extremely deep backcourt for Shannon Jr to try to break through. Despite this, this is a good situation for Terrence Shannon Jr to face intense competition day in and day out. His time will come.
