Former Illini Coleman Hawkins drops Double-Double in ranked win
The former Illini is starting to settle into his new role.
Former Illini Coleman Hawkins had a stellar double-double performance in a home victory over number 16 Cincinnati. Hawkins had 20 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals in what was his best game as a Kansas State Wildcat. The Wildcats have certainly struggled this year and Hawkins has unfortunately taken a lot of the blame due to his NIL earnings. The former Illini star is reportedly receiving close to 2 million dollars in NIL money, however, Kansas State currently sits at 7-5. That 7-5 record includes losses to Drake, Liberty, Wichita State, and a 17-point drubbing by St. Johns.
Coleman Hawkins is being asked to be a go-to guy and score more the ball more this year. This certainly is different for the skilled forward as he previously made his name by being a true Swiss Army Knife.
Kansas State wins 70-67. The record is 7-5. Cannot be overstated how big of a win that is for K-State. Coleman Hawkins was very, very good tonight. If the Wildcats get that version of Hawkins they will be a tough out in Big 12 play.

Illinois definitely misses Coleman Hawkins
There is no doubt that the Illini front court is in good hands. Big man Tomislav Ivisic has been stellar so far and is the perfect fit for the Illinois offense. Behind Ivisic, true freshman Morez Johnson Jr. has come into his own as of late and has even shown the ability to share the court with Ivisic. However, the Illini will miss Coleman Hawkins’ ability to do everything at 6 foot 10 inches.
Hopefully, tonight was a sign of things to come for Coleman as he and his new team look to get back on track.
