Illinois Baseball Looking To Clinch Big Ten Title
On Thursday evening, Illinois Baseball snagged a 5-4 win over the Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette. This means that if the Illini can win one more game tonight at 7 pm CST against Purdue, they will have (at least) a share of the Big Ten Title. Additionally, if Nebraska loses, Illinois baseball will also have a share of the title. Thursday night’s game was quite the thriller. The Illini jolted out to an early 5-1 lead due to a 3-run homerun by Ryan Moerman, however, Purdue slowly chipped away.
In the bottom of the 7th, Purdue cut the deficit to just one run. However, strong bullpen performances by Ben Plumley and Joe Glassey helped Illinois baseball hold on to their lead to top the Boilermakers.
What’s Next?
Illinois will take on Purdue once again for a Friday night showdown at 7 pm CST on the Big Ten Network. Credit to Robert Rosenthal of IlliniBoard for laying out the possible scenarios on X. If Illinois Baseball wins, they will have at least a share of the Big Ten Title. This would be coach Dan Hartleb’s third regular season title during his time in Champaign and a big jolt of energy to the baseball program.
Nebraska Baseball will play Michigan State at 4 pm CST. If the Huskers drop their game against the Spartans, Illinois Baseball will heavily benefit.
