Did Illinois Baseball Punch Its Ticket to the Big Dance?
For the first time since 2019, Illinois Baseball has punched its ticket to the big dance. The Big Ten Champions sat nervously on selection day as they did have a little bit of a rough weekend after clinching the Big Ten regular season title. However, the Illini heard their names called onto the 3-seed line. On Friday, May 31st, the Illinois baseball team will take on Indiana State at the Lexington Regional. The Indiana State Sycamores are a familiar opponent for the Illini. They played two games against each other this season and actually split the games. The Sycamores won the first game, 7-6, and Illinois Baseball won the second and most recent meeting 21-11.
Illinois Baseball has been a streaky team. They started this season off winning only 5 of their first 15 games. Despite this, Dan Hartleb and his crew regrouped to win 28 out of its final 35 games of the regular season.

Sustained Success
Illinois Athletic Director, Josh Whitman, always preaches sustained success. The revenue sports are all in a position to follow that mold, however, the spring sports are also notably successful. Coach Dan Hartleb is the all-time wins leader in Illinois baseball history and has now clinched the school’s 13th NCAA tournament appearance. Illinois Baseball will hopefully continue what is turning out to be a very special season.
