Illinois basketball offers explosive five-star guard Cayden Daughtry
Daughtry is a top-20 prospect in the class of 2027.
Illinois basketball has officially extended an offer to five-star guard Cayden Daughtry. Daughtry, a 6 foot tall point guard, plays his high school ball at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and has offers from some top-notch programs. Per 247sports, Michigan, Miami, Iowa, and Florida State are all heavily pursuing the dynamic point guard. Cayden is the 16th-ranked player in the class of 2027. He is lightning quick off the catch and dribble, and can score from all three levels.
At the Nike EYBL circuit, Daughtry averaged 24.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 10.5 assists through four games. He earned MVP honors over some of the best prep prospects in America. Cayden Daughtry has lightning-fast speed while also being able to play under control and shoot an insanely efficient 61.1% from the field.
How does he fit with Illinois basketball?
Cayden Daughtry is a dynamic lead guard. Per what we are hearing, Illinois basketball is preparing for the notion that both Stefan Vaaks and Quentin Coleman could elevate themselves into the NBA Draft conversation. Both Vaaks and Coleman have elite skills that translate to the next level, and the 2027 NBA Draft certainly is not as strong as previous draft classes. Due to that possibility, the Illini are going to be offering lead guards like Daughtry. In their class of 2027, the Illini currently have in-state prospects Quinton Kitt and Mason Martin committed.
Both Kitt and Martin are more off-guards that can slide into the wing, hence it makes sense that Illinois is looking into lead guards like Cayden Daughtry. Daughtry may not be heavily involved with the Illini, but this offer shows what the staff is currently looking for.
