Illinois Basketball Continues to Stay Focused

Illinois Basketball put up their strongest performance of the season against the Northwestern Wildcats with a dominant 96-66 win. Despite losing their All-American for an unknown period of time, Illinois continues their strong focus and looks to like they are playing with a massive chip on their shoulder. Brad Underwood and his staff deserve a lot of credit for keeping this ship going through the first two games without Terrence Shannon Jr. Additionally, all the players have come out with chips on their shoulders and all of them deserve a world of credit.

A balanced attack.

In the win, Illinois Basketball was led by Marcus Domask. Domask looked like he did against FAU at the garden. He put up 32 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in a very dominant performance. Justin Harmon is starting to look like the leading scorer from Utah Valley and added 20 points on impressive shot-making. Quincy Guerrier added another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

This team seems to be responding quite well to Brad Underwood’s coaching. Despite being up by double digits throughout, Coach Underwood continued to coach guys hard and got after Quincy Guerrier quite a number of times.

An even bigger test

Illinois Basketball will now face an even steeper test. They will head to Mackey Arena to take on the Purdue Boilermakers. Though this was initially a battle of two All-American candidates in Zach Edey and Terrence Shannon Jr, Illinois Basketball will look to show that they are continuing to stay focused. No one in America is picking them to win, much like tonight. This team looks like they have embraced that label and will hopefully continue that trend.
