Illinois Basketball Freshman Morez Johnson Jr “Under-the Radar” per Rothstein

The buzz is starting to build back up for Illinois Basketball. CBS Sports college basketball insider, Jon Rothstein, released a top-20 “under-the-radar” freshman list. One of the freshmen on the list was the Illini’s Morez Johnson Jr. Rothstein, one of the more connected personalities in the college basketball game, stated that Illinois basketball is one of the most intriguing teams in the country. He then went on to note that Johnson Jr. was a contributor to USA basketball this summer and may have a similar impact on the Illini.

Illinois Basketball will certainly have a lot of talent on its roster this year. After a major overhaul over the offseason, the Illini are ready to build on its recent run to the Elite Eight. In fact, Brad Underwood brought in so much talent to Illinois basketball that the 2024 Mr. Basketball from the state of Illinois is being overshadowed. Morez Johnson Jr. committed to Illinois basketball all the way back in November 2021. Afterward, he stayed true to his commitment and also developed into a top-flight prospect.

With Tomislav Ivisic’s immediate eligibility in question, Johnson Jr. should have a sizeable role on this year’s team. At worst, Johnson Jr. will be the first big man off the bench. His athleticism, rim-running, and rebounding prowess certainly bring a different dynamic to the versatile and talented Illini.
