Illinois Basketball Makes Top 5 of Top 2025 Priority
Jeremiah Fears is a top guard in the class of 2025. Per 247 composite rankings, Fears currently is the 31st-ranked prospect in the class of 2025 and the 6th-ranked combo guard. To start off the 2024 year, Jeremiah announced a top 5 of Illinois, Michigan, Kansas, Ole Miss and Providence. The Joliet, Illinois native is currently out west at Compass Prep in Arizona and trying to make an impact heading into a key summer in the EYBL. His older brother Jeremy, is currently playing at Michigan State, however has been sidelined after being involved in a tragic shooting. The elder Fears brother is currently rehabbing and appears to be sidelined from basketball for the foreseeable future. Fears released a rather diverse top 5, to say the least.
Interestingly enough, Michigan State did NOT make Jeremiah’s top 5. Michigan made it, however, Juwan Howard is currently under a lot of fire and is currently leading the worst team in the Big Ten. Ole Miss just does not seem like a fit for the Joliet native. Our sources have told us that nothing is definitive, but Illinois is in the driver’s seat at this point in time.
The Impact?
Jeremiah Fears would be an absolute crown jewel in the class of 2025. As one of the best guards in the class, Fears would have an immediate impact on an Illinois squad that needs perimeter help. Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn and Sencire Harris project as the only upperclassmen that will be in the perimeter at this moment. With Morez Johnson Jr and Amani Hansberry actively holding the frontcourt down, Illinois will try to add the most talented perimeter prospects to complement that scary frontcourt.

Fears has not announced a timetable for his decision, however, we assume that a decision will come before the summer.
