Illinois basketball offers top center from the class of 2026
Can the Illini land another big fish in prep recruiting?
Illinois basketball has offered a scholarship to four-star center Arafan Diane. Diane posted the news on his social media accounts on Tuesday, June 17th, saying:
“Blessed to receive an offer from @IlliniMBB” with the Illinois logo as the picture.
Diane is currently the #1-ranked center and the top overall player in Iowa for the 2026 class, according to the latest 247Sports rankings. Major programs such as Arizona, Creighton, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Purdue, and others have already extended offers.
Diane would give Illinois basketball a major low-post force
The big man, originally from Guinea, attends Iowa United Prep High School and competes on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with Iowa United. He is currently leading the Adidas 3SSB in rebounds per game (9.4) and is averaging 16.8 points per game.
Diane also participated in the NBPA Top 100 Camp, where he was named a top performer by On3’s Jamie Shaw. He averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and shot an impressive 57.6% from the field.
Standing at 7’1″, Diane has a commanding presence in the paint. At Basketball Without Borders, he measured a 7’2.5″ wingspan and a 9’4.5″ standing reach.
He fits the mold of recent Brad Underwood frontcourt recruits, having demonstrated the ability to hit open threes and mid-range jumpers, an important skill in Illinois’ offensive system.
While Diane still needs to add strength, he would bring rebounding and rim protection to Illinois as a freshman. After the 2025-2026 season, Illinois is expected to lose at least one of the Ivisic brothers. On top of that, power forward Ben Humrichous will run out of eligibility. Hence, adding size in the ranks is of utmost necessity. Arafan Diane is exactly what Illinois needs.
