Illinois Basketball Makes Top-six for Five Star Point Guard
Illinois Basketball continues to big game hunt.
Illinois Basketball has made the top six schools for five-star point guard, Mikel Brown Jr. Per Joe Tipton of On3, Brown Jr. will choose between Illinois, Louisville, Ole Miss, Indiana, Villanova, and Alabama. According to 247sports, Brown Jr. is the number eight overall prospect and the number two ranked point guard in the class of 2025. He is currently playing for Overtime Elite and is coming off of a solid season. During the 2023-2024 season, Brown Jr. averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 assists on 37.8 three-point percentage. Per the film, he is an impressive and creative scorer who thrives in ball-screens.
5⭐️ Mikel Brown Jr. says programs like Louisville, Indiana, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Villanova, and Illinois want to get him on campus for visits.

Big-game Hunting
Once again, Brad Underwood and Illinois basketball are big-game hunting. After losing the commitment of their sole commitment in the class of 2025, Jeremiah Fears, many wondered how Brad Underwood would attack prep recruiting. However, it seems that the Illini have been involved with only the top-prospects. Since Fears committed to Oklahoma, the Illini were in conversations with five-stars Jasper Johnson and Cayden Boozer. Johnson, however, announced a top-five list without Illinois basketball despite visiting the campus in June.
Despite the Johnson news, Mikel Brown Jr has now included Illinois in an impressive top-six. Will the Illini land one of Brown Jr or Boozer? It is difficult to tell, however, one thing is very clear. Brad Underwood is only after the best talent.
