Illinois Basketball Stars Invited to NBA Draft Combine
The 2024 NBA draft combine list has been announced. The Draft combine will take place in Chicago, Illinois from May 13th to May 19th in preparation for the June 26 Draft date. Illinois Basketball has two players on the draft combine list, Terrence Shannon Jr and Coleman Hawkins. The Illinois Basketball stars will participate in the draft combine for the second year in a row as they both hope to have their name called on the night of the draft. Terrence Shannon Jr has run out of eligibility, hence it is crystal clear what Shannon Jr will do after the Combine finishes.
On the other hand, Coleman Hawkins entered the transfer portal before the May 1st deadline. Hawkins clarified his intentions with The Field of 68 today and is making the best decision to cover all bases.
The NBA announced today that 78 players have been invited to the 2024 NBA Draft Combine, which will take place from May 12-19 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago.

The first lottery pick in a while?
Terrence Shannon Jr had an all-American season. As a result, He has earned some significant draft hype and will be the 9th pick in the draft per NBAdraft.net. That would mean that Shannon Jr would be the highest Illini draft pick since Meyers Leonard was selected at number 11. Coleman Hawkins has more of a vague draft profile. NBAdraft.net has Hawkins being selected at pick number 52. In his Field of 68 interview, Coleman brought up Trayce Jackson-Davis. Jackson-Davis is a perfect model for Coleman to follow. The Indiana basketball star went to the Golden State Warriors with the 57th pick of the 2023 NBA draft.
However, the situation was perfect for Trayce and he played over 20 minutes a game to end his rookie season. If Hawkins can follow a similar path, he can certainly have an impact in his rookie season.
