Jackson State is coming off a 16-18 campaign and has not posted a winning season in the past four years. That record is good for the third-worst non-conference record in Division I basketball during that span.

According to KenPom, Jackson State enters the season ranked No. 252 nationally, while Illinois sits at No. 6, highlighting the significant talent gap between the two teams.

Keep an eye on Illinois’ health situation heading into Monday night. Mihailo Petrovic has been cleared to play by the NCAA, but will miss the season opener due to a hamstring injury. Andrej Stojakovic did not appear in the team’s closed scrimmage against Florida and is a true game time decision for Monday. Stojakovic’s availability could impact early rotations and chemistry as the Illini look to find rhythm in their season opener.

Still, it will be crucial for the Illini to start strong and handle business in their season opener to set the tone for the 2025-26 campaign.
